SIMONE FORTI & JASON UNDERHILL

GOOD TIMES

Please join us for a collaborative performance by Simone Forti and Jason Underhill at The Box. The duo will incorporate movement, drawing, multimedia video installation, casual ventriloquism and poetry all into a conversation about the ethical and psychic incinerator of our political reality.  

Forti and Underhill have collaborated together on three video projects: Forti's Zuma News* (2013), Flag in the Water (2015), and A Free Consultation (2016); Underhill has worked with Forti as her artist assistant since 2010, as well as an Associate Director at The Box. This evening is a snapshot of a longtime conversation between friends.



Simone Forti (b. 1935, Florence, Italy) has appeared in venues including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; The Louvre Museum, Paris; and Danspace, New York. She has had solo exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum in Bonn, Germany as well as her first major retrospective at the Museum der Moderne, Salzburg, Austria in 2014. Forti’s artwork is in collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Stedelijk Museum, Generali Foundation, and The Whitney Museum of American Art. Forti has received various awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship in dance in 2005 and a Yoko Ono Lennon Courage Award for the Arts in 2011. She is represented by The Box.

Jason Underhill (b. 1982, Los Angeles, CA) is a Los Angeles-based artist. His short films, performances and installations have been exhibited at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Santa Barbara, The ICA, London, The Royal Academy of Art, London, Das Weisse Haus, Vienna, and Dan Graham Gallery, Los Angeles. His cartoons have been published in The Los Angeles Times and he has authored two books of drawings: You're Pro Bono (2015), Fuller House: It Takes Two (2016), and one collection of scripts The (Long and Winding) Road to Margaritaville (2011). Underhill has a BFA in Fine Art from CalArts and an MFA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London; he is currently completing postgraduate coursework in government and security studies at Johns Hopkins University.
