"Anonymous Was A Woman today announced the ten artists selected to receive their twentieth annual awards. All the recipients are women over forty years of age who have significantly contributed to their fields, with the grants meant to support and sustain mature female artists. The winners this year are Donna Dennis, Wendy Ewald, Simone Forti, Rachel Harrison, Pam Lins, Jennifer Montgomery, Dona Nelson, Lisa Sanditz, Lisa Sigal, and Julianne Swartz. Each recipient will receive an unrestricted grant of $25,000 each."

The result will see the participants leading performative exhibiton tours determined by their interpretations on the power dynamic within Gutai, women and men; singularity and plurality; performance and painting.

Additionally, Accompaniment for La Monte's "2 sounds" and La Monte's "2 sounds," a twelve-minute recording by Minimalist composer La Monte Young, will play at The Box at 4 pm, Wednesday through Saturday throughout the duration of the exhibition Sounding.

Review of Platform 2012: Judson Now, a series celebrating the 50th anniversary of that 1960s landmark the Judson Dance Theater. With nearly 20 pieces and almost as many participants,  performances was based on Mr. Mac Low’s book of performance-instruction poems, “The Pronouns: A Collection of 40 Dances for the Dancers.” and developed from his earlier “Nuclei for Simone Forti.”

Developed in the mid-1980s, Simone Forti’s News Animation Improvisations encompasses the translation of the imagery and language of newspaper reports and newscasts into improvised movement compositions. Listening to and reading the news in the months leading up to Made in L.A. 2012, Forti has produced a series of writings and drawings that she will translate into collaborative improvisational performances done throughout the duration of the exhibition at all three venues.
 
Capacity for this performance is limited and on a first come, first served basis.
 
Admission is free.

Unified is an inter-institutional group exhibition of selected graduating BFA art students from Los Angeles area art schools and universities with art programs. The project consists of panel discussions amongst faculty from Art Center, CalArts, UCLA, and UCR, events programming, and a group exhibition of LA area students from the BFA class of 2012
